In Proverbs 3:6 the word submit can mean surrender, succumb, give in, give way to or capitulate. When we submit to the Lord the crooked paths can be made strait. Many believers in the Bible needed Gods wisdom in times of need. The Apostle Paul was one praying and the Holy Spirit lead him to Macedonia in Acts 16:6-12. Are we lead by the Holy Spirit today making wise choices and blessed?

In Proverbs 3:5 we can easily trust people, objects and even our own feelings. This is leaning on our own understanding that is easy to gravitate too. Trusting in the Lord as the Israelites did by putting away their idols allowed God to start working in their lives. (Judges 10:10-18). Pray for wisdom that the Lord my show us our idols and trust Him with our whole being to glorify Him.

In Proverbs 6:12-15 the trouble maker is the opposite of a peacemaker.( Matthew 5:9). The trouble maker always feels the need to protest and complain rather than overlooking the slightest wrong ( Proverbs 19:11 ). They also do not present the other side fairly. Do we have that type of Spirit or do we know one who is like that ? Pray for wisdom done in love and truth to confront ourselves and others.

In Proverbs 1:22 three kinds are mentioned: The word mocker is not a mental state of mind but an attitude that is a character of high pride that hates submitting to anyone. Proverbs 21:24. The simple is one who is gullible and will believe anything. Proverbs 14:15. The Obstinate is opinionated , wise in their own eyes , unable to learn knowledge or be corrected. Proverbs 22:15. Lord help us to be open to wisdom and turn away from the temptation of foolishness.

In Proverbs 1:22 foolishness means to be habitually out of touch with reality and make life miserable for ourselves and everyone else. As Gods people we reap what we sow and therefore are without excuse. Jesus describes a wiseman and a foolish man in Matthew 7:24-26. Foolishness fails to see the physical, psychological, relational, and spiritual. Where have we seen foolishness in our lives and how are we going to correct this?

In Proverbs 1:3-4 the word discretion means to plan and live strategically. It is to know not only what to do but also when to do it. A blessing at the wrong time can be a curse Proverbs in 27:14. Discretion is a form of insight knowing what kinds of behaviors will lead to what result in Proverbs 22:3. Wisdom is in one sense knowing how to be successful at something. But it is wrong to mistake worldly sophistication for Godly wisdom as Adam and Eve did in Genesis 3:6. The ultimate wisdom was seen in Jesus the suffering servant in […]

In Proverbs 1:2 the word insight or discernment means the ability to tell the difference between right and wrong but also among good, better and best. We find that as Christs love in our heart grows, so does our depth of insight. ( Philippians 1:9). Where has God been enabling us to see fine distinctions that we didn’t see before?

In Proverbs 1:1-2 the Hebrew word instruction means training with strong accountability. It means being drilled under an instructor who often gets up in your face. So wisdom often comes through the pain of personal confrontation by friends (27:5),or from learning from ones mistakes(26:11),or from the suffering that God judiciously allows into our lives(3:11-12).To be wise is to become a discipled person, not to impulsiveness. Can we see in our life how God has used difficulty to make us wiser?

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. Psalm 1:1 I’ve had several people say to me something like this: “We must get into the world to experience ungodly situations and ungodly people in order to grow stronger.” This kind of thinking has swallowed up many immature Christians and eventually turned them against God. Sure, we’re in the world (John 17:15) and we’re exposed to non-Christian situations (school, job, neighborhood), but we need to be careful that exposure to those […]

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 God gave the prophet Jeremiah a direct call. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,” God said. “Before you were born I set you apart” (Jer. 1:5). God encouraged him not to fear his enemies, “for I am with you and will rescue you” (v. 8).Jeremiah later lamented his commission with ironic language for a man with a prenatal calling. “Alas, my mother, that you gave me birth, a man […]
