Unchanged BIBLE MEDITATION: “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 1:22-25 DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: James gives this description of […]

Proverbs 3:5,  The closer I am to God the more apt I am to make wise choices (Proverbs 16:3). Plan ahead and think things through (Proverbs 6:6-8, 10:5, 31:21). See the examples of the wise ant, the wise son, and the wise housewife. Gather All the Facts (Proverbs 13:16). Seek Godly Counsel (Proverbs 12:15, 15:22). Conclusion: Are you facing a tough decision? Once you have applied these four principles you can move forward with […]

The Five BE’s of Purity Scripture: Psalm 24:3-4 : Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart… Whatever happened to purity? It’s a rare commodity today, but as believers, we should be reflecting the character of God. We need to be clean because God is clean. The prerequisite for service is cleanliness. It’s also the prerequisite for blessing. But how on earth are we going to remain pure in a world like this? Be Careful What You See (2 Samuel 11:1-5). David’s sin began with […]

Kent Hughes writes about a cartoon in The New Yorker that showed a large sign out in front of a church which read: “The Lite Church: 24% Fewer Commitments, Home of the 7.5% tithe, fifteen-minute sermons, forty-five-minute worship services. We have only eight commandments—your choice. We use just three spiritual laws. Everything you’ve wanted in a church … and less!” Unfortunately that cartoon paints an accurate picture. Many people today are looking for a “lite church,” a “lite faith,” and a “lite commitment.” James 2:14-20, especially verse 17: Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. […]
